On April 18, 2007, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 to uphold the federal Partial Birth Abortion Act, a ban on an abortion procedure that the Republican controlled Congress passed in 2003. Feminist Majority Foundation President Eleanor Smeal issued a statement, saying, "In upholding the Bush Administration’s abortion ban in Gonzales v.
